A glittering professional's career can conceal some of the darkest tales. The winner of both the USA and World Championships in the event of a hurdle, Lolo Jones has reached her current standing after plenty of effort and immense patience. Jones had the most difficult of lives as the child of a single mother with five children. Her mother had been constantly changing her location and she was a resident in the basement. Jones had to attend the same high school each year because of her nomadic background. Jones needed to be separated from her mother at Theodore Roosevelt School to follow her passion for track. Jones was part of four families during her time at high school in order study in one place. Jones won the Gatorade Iowa Track & Field Athlete of the Year award at school and was also involved in the school orchestra, as a cello player.
